Pilliga is a small town with a population of about 300 residents, located 105 kilometres west of Narrabri. It is home to the Pilliga Artesian Bore Baths, constructed in 1902 as a permanent town water supply after a severe drought.

Pilliga originated from the early development of the timber industry and was gazetted as a township in 1885. It was once an important centre on the Cobb and Co route.

The Pilliga Bore Baths have become a popular recreational activity for swimming and their therapeutic qualities. The baths were upgraded in 2010 with new facilities, including barbecues, shelters, cold showers, and toilet facilities, along with camping for a small fee. Payments can be made at the Narrabri Region Visitor Information Centre or online at explorenarrabriregion.com.au.
Nearby, the Pilliga State Forest is a vast woodland characterized by native white cypress and iron bark trees, broom bush plains, vivid spring flowers, and abundant fauna. Kangaroos, koalas, and emus can often be seen grazing in their natural surroundings. Visitors can spend a day exploring the forest and visiting natural wonders such as the Salt Caves and Sandstone Caves. The award-winning Sculptures in the Scrub is also a must-see attraction.
