The pub was made world-famous in 1983 when none other than David Bowie chose the location to film the video for his hit single ‘Let’s Dance’. It’s said that Bowie ‘drove to the sheep-country outpost of Carinda, walked into the one-room pub of the local hotel and charmed the locals by talking cricket’.
Today, the pub still dominates the corner of the town, the roads are bitumen, and visitors are plenty, enjoying easy access to the nearby Macquarie Marshes. The Carinda Pub is open seven days a week offering meals at both lunch and dinnertime, and there’s accommodation available if you need a bed.
And while the modern history of the pub and community continue to be written, Bowie is remembered at the annual ‘Let’s Dance Festival’, held in Carinda each year on the October long weekend. The festival features a re-enactment of the famous pub performance.
