Collarenebri

FacebookTweetLinkedInEmail

A crossing on the Barwon previously known as Rocky Ford, Collarenebri is the home of the mighty Murray Cod in the upper basin.

Collarenebri, situated on the banks of the Barwon River, is just a 50-minute drive northeast of Walgett along the Gwydir Highway. The RV-friendly campground, complete with amenities and potable water, is the perfect spot to relax for a few days and practice your casting right from your riverside site. If the big one gets away, don’t worry—just down the road, the Tattersalls Hotel offers meals and cold beer which is nearly as good.

The township is experiencing something of a revival, spearheaded largely by the new owners of the Tattersall’s Hotel, who have also supported the re-opening of the local butchers, a laundromat, and a new cafe in town. In addition to this, the Walgett Shire has developed excellent public bore bath facilities right in the middle of town.

Hot Springs
The Collarenebri Hot Springs Bore Baths. Located in the centre of town, are a must see when travelling in Northern NSW. Hot spring water is pumped directly from the Artesian Basement. The temperature and minerals have been found to work together, giving you that spaced out feeling and helping your muscles and joints relax and unwind.
Collarenebri Weir
Many experienced fishermen consider the Barwon River at Collarenebri one of the best inland fishing locations in Australia and ideal for water skiing. A weir across the river, just half a kilometre out of town, is a wonderful and popular site. It provides for excellent boating upstream and good fishing downstream. Camping is permitted on many riverbank sites
Collymongle Carved Trees
Visit the Collymongle Station and see the Carved trees, which are a must see item of great significance to the Indigenous people of the area. There are some Aboriginal Carved Trees on display at the Collymongle turnoff. These trees were cut down and removed from their original site on Banaway Bora Ground in the early 1940’s.
Aboriginal Cemetery
Collarenebri is home to the Gamilaraay (Kamilaroi) people. The Aboriginal Cemetary has an aura of Peace, love and lots of colour. Built in 1907 the Aboriginal Cemetary was added to the NSW Heritage Register in 2014.
