With the discovery of copper in Cobar in 1870, the surrounding district was known as ‘copper country’. Copper was discovered in Mount Hope in 1873 by a shepherd on Coan Downs Station.
Nowadays, Mount Hope is known for its welcoming pub positioned ‘along the way’ and its interesting topography, with hills rising out of the landscape. Royal Hotel – The Royal Hotel at Mount Hope (1883) is a family-friendly pub located along the Kidman Way between Hillston and Cobar. Be sure to stop in for great outback food and hospitality.
