Nymagee

FacebookTweetLinkedInEmail

Nymagee was built on the backs of Cornish, Welsh and Scottish miners and mining engineers, and Graham Street alone reputedly boasted four hotels, one on each corner.

With the Metropolitan Hotel being the centre of community life, Nymagee offers an authentic Australian Outback experience for visitors seeking tranquillity, natural beauty, and a glimpse into the region’s rich mining history. Nymagee is also home to ‘Clancy of the Overflow‘ a poem written by the famous bush poet Banjo Paterson. The sheep station, “The Overflow”, that is featured in the poem, is located to the south-east of Nymagee.

Nymagee is situated approximately 100 km south of Cobar and 620 km from Sydney. It is a peaceful and laid-back destination, making it an ideal getaway for those seeking an escape from the city. The town has a vibrant local community that is the heart and soul of life in this part of the bush. Once a busy little mining town, surrounded by hills and spectacular views, Nymagee is now a serene village. The town’s remoteness contributes to a sense of calm repose, allowing visitors to unwind and connect with nature.

Nymagee events – Nymagee has a selection of events which have remained steady on the local calendar, showcasing the town’s community spirit and outback traditions. These events include the annual flower show, tennis, cricket and gymkhana.
