You can’t miss the entrance to the Outback Resort with its signature flying van painted by local artist John Murray. Inside you will find all accommodation options catered for, with a campground, caravan park and amenities, and cabin-style motel accommodation with spacious parking available for travellers.
In the centre of the facility is Nobby’s Bistro, Bar and Grill, offering excellent bistro meals in a large dining room with its own bar. There are swimming pools to enjoy in the summer, and warm fires for the winter, and everything is open seven days.
The Outback Resort has a well-appointed bottle shop, and the main bar area features numerous beers on tap, a warm fireplace and lounge area, pool table and gaming area.
Make sure you call in and say “G’day” to the friendly staff, and maybe you’ll be lucky enough to stay a few days – but book ahead, it’s popular.

Lightning Ridge is one of the most iconic outback destinations in Australia. Synonymous with its famous black opal, the town’s very backbone is the hard and thirsty work of mining. It’s quite surprising that a town like this only ever really had one hotel.
