Perched on the corner of the Mitchell Hwy and the Dowling Track, the Northy is a great little pub on the banks of the Darling River, close to the iconic North Bourke Bridge. A historical resting spot for both drovers and paddleboats as they navigated the river and the bridge, and rebuilt in 2021 after a devastating fire, the Northy is historic and modern at the same time - it's also lots of fun. Call in and have a drink, and tell them The Pub Route sent you. 2:52

Shindy's Inn at Louth is the only business in the little village on the Darling River. It's a historic location surrounded by farm stays, and an essential stop on the Darling River Run. If you come for the annual races you'll meet around 5000 people to keep you company, but most travellers come to enjoy the peace and quiet - and the hospitality of Shindy's Inn of course. 'Iconic' can be an overused term, but it's appropriate for the little pub on the Darling River at Tilpa. The names written on the walls all represent a donation to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and probably tally a few beers as well. Why not have yourself a beer, add your name to the wall, and include the Tilpa Pub on your list of experiences - don't forget to tell them the Pub Route sent you. 2:38

The little village of Byrock was relocated to be closer to the railway when the straight stretch of tracks came through in the 1800s. The pub moved too, and so the Mulga Creek Hotel is no longer on the Mulga Creek, but it's still a fantastic destination with great history, excellent meals, and a cast of characters. Make sure you call in and have a beer, tell them The Pub Route sent you. 2:48

You can't miss the Outback Resort with its flying van painted by local artist John Murray soaring among the palm trees near the entrance. It's a resort, a hotel, a bottle shop, a restaurant, a family campground, a caravan park - oh yeah, and it's also a pub, the only one in Lightning Ridge. Make sure you call in and say "g'day" - tell them The Pub Route sent you. 2:39

Sid and Jenny Brummell took over the general store / pub in the little village of Rowena just a few years ago. The work they've done since has expanded the little house-like building into a fantastic venue with dining areas, a kitchen that is open virtually non-stop, fire pits, beer garden and lounge areas, pool tables, accommodation and camping - even a jumping castle in the summer time. The beer is cold and on-tap, the meals are hearty and excellent, and there is plenty to look at on the memorabilia-lined-walls. Make sure you call in and have a look - tell them you followed The Pub Route. 2:58

When brother and sister John and Phyllis Dunn left Collarenebri in their late teens, they could never have known that one day they'd be back, and owning some of the key businesses in town, including the pub! Some locals say they've revived the village which was at risk of becoming a ghost town, and the re-invigoration of the pub has certainly breathed new life into the community - good pubs will do that. While it's still a work in progress, their efforts are plain to see, so why not drop in and have a look at this fantastic story as it unfolds - tell them The Pub Route sent you. 2:56

When Chris and Leeanne Frankel bought the Mt Hope Royal Hotel they did it just to keep the doors open for the community, now it has become part of their life. Midway on the long drive between Hillston and Cobar, you really can't find a better place to stop, and you certainly can't miss this roadside bar. Open 7 days a week with meals and drinks from early to late, you can get a coffee and some good advice in the morning, or a beer and bad advice at night. Just be sure to tell them The Pub Route sent you. 2:29

The sleepy village of Euabalong was once a busy Cobb and Co stop, and it's still a great place to take a break from your travels. With meals most days, cold beer and friendly locals, take advantage of the free camping or nearby caravan park and enjoy a rest on the Lachlan River. Don't let the bars on the windows worry you, as owners Kylie and Neil will say 'come and have a drink at the bar behind bars' - and tell them The Pub Route sent you. 2:29

With a population of around 20 people, the village of Nymagee punches well above its weight for community activities, but the mainstay of the whole area is the Metropolitan Hotel. Owners Blain and Celeste have created a warm and friendly atmosphere where locals and visitors can enjoy a drink, a meal, and a good yarn, and we hope you'll do the same.
