The Pub Route

The village of #Wrightville, located in the Cobar Shire, was once a lively mining town with four bustling pubs – the Family Hotel, the Young Australia Hotel, Tattersall’s Hotel, and the Chesney Hotel.

The Chesney Hotel, named after a nearby mine, was a favourite watering hole in town. Its publican Jim Martin even owned the first car in Cobar and proudly posed with it outside his pub, as seen in this photo.

Though all of Wrightville’s hotels closed in 1920, their stories live on at the Great Cobar Museum, where bottles and memories from this once-thirsty town are still preserved.

Pass through the old town of Wrightville on the #CopperRoute and visit the pubs of today in Cobar, Euabalong, Mount Hope, and Nymagee.
